Bullying is any form of psychological, verbal or physical abuse produced between students repeatedly over a period of time determined both in the classroom and through social networks, with the specific name of cyberbullying. The protagonists of bullying cases are usually boys and girls in the process of entering adolescence. About 10% of adolescents confess that they have suffered or suffer bullying behaviour at some time, and this phenomenon has already caused many damages among adolescents, even reaching in some cases suicide. The alarming increase of bullying incidents in Europe calls for a common European strategy. Now, violence and bullying in schools is one of the strategic priorities of The Council of Europe Strategy on the Rights of the Child. However, the fight against bullying is a long journey in which the awareness of all is needed first. It is estimated that simultaneous intervention on individual, family and socio-cultural factors is the only possible way to prevent bullying. And the school and teachers have a lot to do about intervention on those factors. Here in this course you will gain awareness about those factors and learn the concept of bullying, its detection, prevention, tools and methods to fight against, good examples in Spain and Europe, dissemination, policies, and more…
Spain is also one of the countries that suffer from violence and bullying in schools and Malaga states as the Spanish city with the most bullying alerts in educational centres. Due to the huge increase of bullying cases, now is also the Spanish city which takes comprehensive measures against bullying with institutional, local and national level with collaboration of Andalusian government and National Police. In this course, you will find the first hand chance to observe existing situation in Spain and alternative ways and methods carried by governmental and educational institutions in order to fight fully against bullying by visiting some pioneer schools, associations and governmental institutions.
